NEVER ever put your custom knife in the dishwasher for starters ! Wash by hand with a soft sponge and soap and water. Immediately dry off making sure it is completely dry. Then put some food grade oil or wax on it. Mineral oil with beeswax in it will prolong the life of the knife.

Our definition is that it is a pattern welded steel. Usually consisting of 2 to 3 and yet sometimes 4 different steels welded together by high temperatures and mashed together. Some more elaborate that others by how it is cut and restacked then heated up again and mashed together. Each one will have a different pattern and look to it when this is done over and over again.
True damascus steel actually comes from the mountains in Damascus, Syria which literally is ore and needs to be smelted to form a wootz steel. A crucible is used to melt the ore down and all the different minerals and impurities is what gave the ancient times damascus the look it had. Those days are long and gone for the actual process for making the wootz steel was lost due to generations gone. Today we just try to mimic of days past !
